Mission

Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry provides local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Impact on individual lives

The shoeboxes bless children with joy, hope, and love.  Their shoebox is the first gift many children have ever received! The treasures and personal letters inside communicate that someone cares for them and give them an opportunity to experience the love of God.

When

This ongoing project runs now-Nov 2020.  National collection week is Nov 16-23, 2020.  More information to come on the date for our Operation Christmas Child shoebox packing party.  This is a great opportunity to gather together to help assemble the shoeboxes.  The date and process for this will be determined by the Santa Clara County Social Distancing guidelines in the October/November timeframe.

Who will receive the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes
The Operation Christmas Child team has let us know that in previous years fewer boxes have been donated for boys and girls ages 2 – 4 and so the boxes we prepare this year will be focused on this age group.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT THIS YEAR

In light of the global pandemic which has a significant impact on how we interact with this strange new world, we will be collecting funds to purchase the items that will go into the shoeboxes.

This change will provide a safer means of collecting items for the shoeboxes by greatly limiting in-person shopping and personal contact by collecting funds, rather than the items themselves, from those who wish to contribute.

WAYS TO GIVE

Since most of the shopping will be done online, we are asking for cash donations.
We have two donation methods:

  1. Make checks out to “Union Presbyterian Church” and make note on the memo line: Operation Christmas Child/OCC.

    or

  2. Donate online by clicking on the button below.  In the notes section for your donation; enter OCC (for Operation Christmas Child).

Where your money goes

To get a sense of what your generous financial support will go towards, below is a list of items which will be placed in each OCC shoebox, the estimated cost of 150 of each, as well as the total cost to cover the $9.00 shipping fee for each box.

More simply, the cost for one box is about $16, plus shipping of $9 per box (or a total of $25/box).  Please note that donations of any amount will be gladly accepted and go a long way to blessing children throughout the world.

More information on Samaritan’s Purse
Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His son, Jesus Christ. The organization serves the church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
What Samaritan’s Purse aims to solve
Whether due to famine, conflict, persistent poverty, or natural disasters, people around the world are brought low by circumstances and catastrophes. Fallen along the wayside of life, these families and communities are in need of both physical assistance and the love of Christ. Recognizing these needs, Samaritan’s Purse provides physical aid while sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ministering to the broken.
Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, makes it possible for millions of children around the world to experience God’s love through shoeboxes filled with gifts. In the hands of local churches, these simple shoebox gifts become Gospel opportunities through which children and families come to faith in Christ, churches are planted, and new believers are discipled in some of the most unreached places in the world. Since 1993, we have collected and delivered more than 168 million shoebox gifts to children in more than 160 countries. Last year, more than 10.6 million shoeboxes were collected and sent from eight countries.
