“Pure In Heart”
Pastor David Moore
Psalm 24:1-10
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.
Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.
They will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God their Savior. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, you gates; lift them up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty—he is the King of glory.
Review: The beatitudes are about this new life in Christ. Jesus says we have to be born again to enter the Kingdom of God. John 3:3.
Today’s theme: Today we will talk about the meaning of, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God.”
Matthew 5:1-12
Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”
According to Scripture to be ‘born again’ is to have a ___________________________. Psalm 24:4.
God softens our heart to be receptive of his word similar to planting seeds on fertile soil, so our heart is __________________ to the word and instruction of God.
What matters is that you are in the Kingdom and what you do with God’s presence in your life. The _________________ of God in your life will cause your life to blossom, becoming a new creation. ~D. Moore
Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.
Purity of heart is the ________________________ of someone. Jesus says purity of heart marks a changed person, a follower of Jesus. Hebrews 10:22
The aim of spiritual formation is not behavior modification but the transformation of all those aspects of you and me where behavior comes from…Circumcision of the heart. ~Dallas Willard
God ___________ broken people because broken people are all that there are. ~Tullian Tchividjian
>Religion ->Behavior modification
>Christianity ->Heart and mind transformation.
1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect.
Dear God, Pick up the pieces of my broken life, please put me back together again. Jeremiah 17:14
This week, review the Scriptures in the notes several times.
Think about this challenge, ask Christ to show you the idols in your life and ask for forgiveness and strength to be able to let go of the idols. The only solution to our brokenness is the Spirit of God transforming our hearts and minds.
God bless all of you that have a pure heart.
(Answers: pure heart, receptive, authority, transforming, loves)
